Not Afraid to Say “No” to Stay Safe

Never Sacrifice Safety to Meet a Deadline

In the face of looming deadlines and intense pressure, the temptation to take shortcuts can be powerful. However, at our company, we believe that safety should never be compromised to meet or exceed a deadline. Safety is not just a buzzword for us, we empower all our team members, regardless of their level, to speak up when they encounter or foresee unsafe situations.

When a Foreman Says "No" to a Customer

Telling a customer "No" is typically not recommended. Yet, one of our foremen, recently did just that, and he was commended for his actions. While working alongside another contractor, an unsafe situation unfolded. Some corners were cut in order to do a job quickly. However, some of the equipment was live and needed to be worked on by an electrician. The customer asked him to work on the equipment, but he refused to proceed without proper precautions and safety measures in place. Understandably, the customer was initially frustrated by the setback. While making things safe for all parties the half-done job came undone. Some equipment was damaged and fortunately, no one was injured. The same frustrated customer applauded our foreman for prioritizing safety, even when it was not the popular choice at the time.

Safety is a Daily Decision

Our team works in hazardous environments on a daily basis. Ensuring safety relies on every team member making constant decisions and assessments to prevent risks to themselves, their colleagues, and all personnel on the site. When safety takes precedence and risks are mitigated, everyone benefits. When everyone returns home safely, and the project progresses without major setbacks, it's a win for all involved.
